Annual IMHN Event 2019
This year’s event was run with Healthwatch Surrey and was held on the 19th November at Dorking Halls. Our theme was Suicide Prevention and keeping our Mental Health Healthy.
Our chair Karl-Samuel Atreides welcomed everybody and our Co-chair Eleanor Levy gave an update of the IMHN successes and challenges over the last year and a forward look to what’s coming up in 2020.
We had an excellent turn out from members, professionals and service providers. There were a variety of stalls representing a wide array of local services including Community Connections and Action for Carers Surrey.
At the beginning of the day, we had a Mindfulness and Meditation practical session from Amanda who also shared her lived experience with us.
We had three main speakers, presenting on Suicide Prevention, Physical Activity and its effect on Mental Health and a very moving talk from Sarah Stilwell from SOBS Guildford. The day included two table discussions – one around Suicide Prevention and one around Physical Activity. These discussions gave us an opportunity to capture lived experiences and insight from IMHN members which will be shared with commissioners and service providers to help to inform their planning for the year ahead.
After lunch and before the afternoon presentations began, Michele de Casanove from ‘Move It or Lose It’ had everybody in the room getting active to some rousing music.
The day ended with an opportunity for IMHN members to give their thoughts on topics/areas of focus for the network for the year ahead. Finally, it was time for the raffle – this year, every participant had a raffle sheet which was complete when they had it signed by stalls they had visited. The raffle was drawn and David Muir became the proud owner of an Amazon Echo Dot – well done David!
We need to say a huge thank you to all the members who were involved in the planning team for putting together a really good event. Thank you also to our stallholders, presenters and to everyone who came along and contributed to discussions.
